Marty, our intrepid Moto Guzzi riding, UPS pilot, has my vote for HARD CORE ROMEO of the year. Granted the Guzzi has a big windshield and those heads sticking out to the side have got to be warm but to show up bare headed with no gloves in near freezing weather is HARD CORE for sure.
Four additional, more appropriately attired, Salina ROMEOs waited patiently on the Lindsborg contingent at the North Ohio Casey's. Seven of us eventually made our way toward Longford for what has become an annual Spring kickoff lunch at the Coachlight Restaurant.
You just never know what will show up at these lunches as witnessed by Bill Wilson's fishing pole toting Versys, ROMEOs are nothing if not diversified. Probably has that trunk full of ice for his fish.
Twenty One ROMEOs sat down for lunch and the staff from the Coachlight didn't disappoint with their usual efficient and fast service. I had the meat loaf special for $5.00 and it was almost more than I could eat but I managed. Very tasty too. The chicken fried steak looked but I got it on good authority that it wasn't as good as it looked, you just can't beat homemade meatloaf.
The usual tire kicking and lying went on after lunch and I'm betting John on his Wing from Shawnee was the long distance rider today. At just over 40 miles the crew from Salina didn't even get their oil warm.
Nine of us made a side trip to the Russell Stover plant just outside of Abilene in hopes of touring the facility but were were informed that they didn't give tours. We had to content ourselves with ice cream and free samples of candy from the outlet store.
We lost Marty to the Interstate just before getting to Russell Stover. At first I thought he was turning into the infamous Lion's Den for some adult reading material but he was just making his way up the on ramp.
Our ranks had thinned to six by the time we stopped at Wendy's in Salina for a Frosty. Yep, that's right ice cream, candy AND a Frosty.
