Lincoln, KS 4-10-09

The Hungry Hunter cafe

Lincoln, KS 6/10/09

There is nothing like a little competition at the end of a 98 mile lunch ride.  Such was the case this afternoon on the way back from The Hungry Hunter cafe in Lincoln, KS when Neil pulled along side me at a stop light a few blocks from where he was going to turn off for home.  The glean in his eye betrayed his intention to challenge the mighty Royal Enfield Bullet with his antique 1973 Honda XL-250.  I figured I could get a hole shot on him, my reflexes being better and all since he is so much older than me.  My instincts were right

as the REB leap out first but as we hit 2nd gear the little XL surged ahead with it's front wheel a foot off the ground.  He just steadily gained ground and by the time I found 3rd it was a lost cause.  I thought I could see Pat laughing in my rear view as he brought up the rear on his Vulcan and Neil peeled off for home.

Lunch was good and the ride was nice on an overcast cool day.  I counted 12 at lunch with Bob Lee from Wichita taking long distance honors.

David Blasco's blog about Royal Enfields, http://www.royalenfields.com/, was the source for this fun web site.  You type in the URL of any web site, hit the magic button and it gives you what they call a Word Cloud.  Here is the one for my blog:

Back in Kansas

Got back home on the 3rd but didn't ride until the 5th.  Had planned on taking the REB out for a spin but when I started it up I heard a phffft, phffft, coming from the exhaust port.  A quick feel for air showed the problem to be the PAV hole.  The JB weld I had stuck in there had come out causing the leak.  I patched it up and had to let it sit so the Dubya got a little workout.

The REB got it's turn this morning with a short ride around town.  Runs great and will be ready for the trip to Minnesota after an oil change.

Today was my birthday and I celebrated by attending my high school alumni reunion.  One of my classmates told me that every eleven years it falls on my birthday.  Had a good time visiting with old friends.  My school was so small that individual classes don't have a reunion, just the whole school.  The class of '60 had 7 graduate, 4 of us attended.

Here is another picture of our new granddaughter, Amelia.  At one month old she was really starting to be alert and looking around and even smiling.

And here is one of a future motorcyclists, my grandson, Alexander.
